Is the warm climate the enemy of fresh white wine? Can there be white wines south of Plovdiv, Rome, Barcelona, Porto that can compete with the classics from the north? In this lecture, we will travel south of the 42nd parallel – from Turkey, Greece, Bulgaria through Italy, Spain to Portugal – and taste 6 white wines, born under strong sun, but with surprising freshness, elegance and character. We will discover how local white varieties manage to maintain acidity, aromatic profile and balance despite the heat. We will debunk the myth that “true white” only comes from cold. Southern white can sometimes be the better alternative.
